Healthy-real food and Juices/Smoothies made with Real Ingredients on site! Kinda of a Hawaiian inspired Coffee House- with incredible Juices/Smoothies. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful! Ordered a Beet-Carrots-Ginger Cayenne pepper juice called Kilauea- spicy!! Next time I might ask them to tone it down a bit- but super healthy!! If you are up in Pismo Beach area it is worth your time to come here ! Real juice- real smoothies with food you can see right in front of you- no sneaky mixes or mystery ingredients!

Stayed at a hotel near by after doing a little coast trip. Stopped in with my friend and had a great experience. Now I am not a coffee drinker but my friend ordered a coffee and she is still raving about it. She said it was the best coffee she has had in a long time. I ordered a passion guava smoothie and we shared a bagel-wich, and got a 7 layer bar (think that is what it was called to go for the drive) The smoothie was so good, tasted just like the fruit, not too sweet, blended really well. The bagel-wich was on a sundried tomato bagel with cream cheese, turkey, tomato, and avocado. Really good, great bagel and amount of stuffing inside. The 7 layer bar was so good, we both said how we were glad we didn't eat it while at the Red Dirt bc we would have bought another.

Came here to get some coffee to kill time for waiting for another restaurant, overall not too shabby. I LOVED all the different flavors with macadamia nut and coconut and banana! What?! Nice to see a change from the usual flavors. Anyways, I got the Haupia Latte because it had macadamia nut in it! It was good, not too sweet but I couldn't taste any macadamia. Buuut willing to give the benefit of the doubt cause we headed over there right before they were closing. Atmosphere is super cute and the workers were really friendly, will be back again soon!

Had a tasty Ham 'n Cheese croissant here and the kid had a granola/yogurt parfait. Yummy! Definitely coming back for the Kalua pig! Very cozy atmosphere, great employees.

You can't tell from the photo but had a Taro Root Latte. This is as close to Aloha spirit as you can get on the Central Coast. Food is ono. Have macaroni salad. Close to the islands. No poko though unfortunately.

Love this place. Yummy food and drinks. Can get a lil pricey but you get what you pay for. Always great service and a clean restroom. Kid-friendly, cool aquarium and lil books for kids, but a one-star downgrade because of the smoke that often wafts in from the smokers sitting within 10 feet of the door.

Red dirt is the best spot for a quick breakfast or lunch in the AG area. Good coffee, awesome Hawaiian plates on weekends (I've been told), and I especially appreciate the delicious gluten free options. The island turkey sandwich (avocado, cheese, veggies, turkey) on gluten free bread is better than anything I could make at home, and the price is reasonable. I visit weekly or every other week, and have never had a bad experience. If you call ahead, it's always ready by the time you arrive.

Great little spot I stumbled upon after having some great bbq. Great service and great local coffee! The shop has a nice relaxed vibe, and I dig the decor. It adds a nice feeling to the total ambiance.

I love there bagelwich breakfast sandwich. I enjoy their chai tea latte. It is a great place to have a nice bite to eat and enjoy the sunshine if you decide to sit out front.

Really interesting flavor combos... A nice change from the big green machine. Lolo Chocolate frappe was yummy!! Quirky (some may call it dingy) little place with lots of aloha personality. Glad we stopped in for the coffee!

I love love love this place. During Thanksgiving they make some incredible pumpkin spice Chia lattes with REAL PUMKIN..... YUMMY

  • Michelle R.

The coffee is ok the food they have is pretty good but the service is something else all together. I've been in twice and every time, I leave wondering wow. someone is having a ruff morning . If your going to be serving 4$+coffee it helps if you do it with a smile.

Oh hello perfect hole in the wall discovery! I would have never thought that this little place next to smart and final would be so amazing! I won't go anywhere else for code because I'm spoiled by red dirts amazing lattes. The dark chocolate coconut mocha with almond milk is my favorite. Non dairy options available for the vegans (like me)!

  • Mindy T.

Only place in town where I can get an almond milk latte! Super fresh food and awesome people.

Worst. Customer. Service. Ever. Not a smile, thank you, or anything else from the baristas working yesterday (1/3/15) afternoon. Even eye contact was scarce. I should have gone to the Starbucks across the street. Update 1/10/15: changed this from one to two stars. After my review, I was contacted by the coffeeshop and they apologized and tried to make amends. This shows excellent ownership/management. :)

Coffee is great, cooked food is good but I wish they would just stop with the overpriced Costco treats and find a local bakery and sell those instead. They do have local cupcakes so hopefully that's a start. Place looks dingy when you walk in, but I could fall asleep in those old comfy sofas. I now only come for the coffee and every once in a while I'll give in to my begging child who wants a Costco treat.

After being in Hawaii for 12 days it was good to be back at Red Dirt. Espresso was good and there was agave for my drink. My dad has the 100% Hawaiian coffee press and they keep his coconut milk/cream since he's GF/Vegan. Eggs were steamed w bacon tomato and avocado. Yum!!

Was excited to go somewhere not "corporate". This place was a bit dingy...bordering on dirty. Ordered a cappuccino dry, got a latte that was bordering on the temperature of the surface of the sun. Not sure how the coffee tastes because my tongue is wrecked. I should have know because I could barely hold it through the sleeve. My wife's cafe au lait was luke warm and no Bueno. I'm sure there was a problem making my foam that turned into scalding my milk. Oh, and you get a free eye roll from the barista when you order a dry cappuccino...bonus!

    (1)
  • Eric E.

One of the best cappuccinos I've had in a long time. Dry, no sugar needed, albeit a bit too much foam in a big cup.

    (4)
  • dan s.

Stopped by on the way to LA. Awesome dry cappuccino - that means extra extra foam. Chill atmosphere and friendly barista. No kalua pork except on Fridays and Saturdays.

  • Scott H.

Yuck!!! Maybe the coffee is good but the food is down right nasty! The rice was pure mush. The shoyu chicken had a horrible flavor. I'm from Hawaii and believe me this is no where near what shoyu chicken is supposed to taste like. They warned me that it was vinegary but damn this was like swishing my mouth in vinegar...no shoyu flavor anywhere in the dish. I don't even know how to describe the mac salad... I'm not sure what mayo they used but this too was really off. Definitely not coming back here again.

  • Bunny L.

Was in town for the Pismo Trailer Rally and happened to stumble into this little cafe.......kinda bummed because I though it was a sit down restaurant but decided to stay. So glad I did!! The hot white Mocha was THE best and the croissant cream cheese/Hawaiian sausage was to die for!!! Yum yum yum!! The whole aura was great!! I will be back!!

  • Sumeena B.

The service here is good - everyone is super nice and take the time to explain options to you. I ordered a macadamia nut latte and the boyfriend got an iced almond milk latte. They make the drinks pretty quickly. They also have sandwiches and salads. I tried a half-size veggie panini sandwich. They had a little trouble making it the first time around (something about putting it in the panini press in the wrong order?) and forgot that I had ordered it to go, but they were sweet about it and the sandwich was super yummy.

It is great to support local and I love this place. Great drink and food selection and awesome Kauai vibes here. Very friendly staff. I dig the local ukulele musicians that play here too.

DAMNED HAOLE CLAIMS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RED DIRT IS DA BOMB! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What a great ALOHA PIT STOP! This place is as good as it gets for an authentic Hawaiian Plate Lunch in the greater SLO area! Whoever is doing the cooking here, or advising how to cook Hawaiian food, really knows their stuff. {Side History Lesson/ Taste Bud Experience Note: In the past, I had lived in, worked, and graduated from John A Burn's School of Medicine (UH MANOA= GO RAINBOWS!) in HAWAII for over twelve years of eating the absolute best in Island, Pacific Rim, Asian, & Hawaiian food. Red Dirt has even L&L beat on quality, and is on par with true local Hawaiian establishments where tourists & Haoles may not dare to roam! } Warning: it is only available on Fridays & Saturdays, and is highly addicting & EXTREME ONO! It also is a SPECIAL which is not on the usual menu... Just ask & be Akamai! ONO PLATE LUNCH: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For those of you in the know, or need a basic primer/review, ON ONO-LICIOUS ORDERING: 1) You get two scoops Rice (really moist asian style rice straight from a rice cooker, not the American slop). 2) One scoop Macaroni salad with lots of Mayo (oh, so decadent) 3) Choice of one (or more) proteins: a) Kailua Pork - my total FAV! ...in all its smoky savory tasty goodness & GLORY!!!! b) Shoyu Chicken- very tasty & authentic. c) Chicken or Pork Adobo- a Filipino treat which uses vinegar & is quite yummy. d) Beef Stew- this is more of a traditional American choice for those who are less adventurous. E) GET SOME OF ALL OF THE ABOVE for a slight up change....just ask the manager for a special "package" deal. (The Manager here is friendly and helpful with any SPECIAL requests. The youngsters who do most of the serving are quite friendly, but will defer to DA BOSS LADY). Make sure you wash it all down, this HUGE PLATE of AMAZING FOOD, with a Big Pot of French Pressed Fresh Organic KONA COFFEE!...... Dey call your name.... then come and get IT! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AND Yes.... it happens to be a funky humble quaint artsy casual self-serve Hawaiian themed Cafe complete with Spam Musubi, Coaches, Fish-tank, Organic Small Farm Big Island Kona Coffee, local/ Hawaiian themed Artwork, sporadic great authentic Hawaiian Music on some Fridays, with an eclectic crowd of mixed Haoles, locals, & Hawaiians. ****Please note that for you Vegetarians out there, they will do a plain Sushi Rice Musubi...and possibly other variants, by special request.***** (Please disregard the LOLO review about the "TOO Big & Salty Spam Musubi". I loth Spam, but hey, it comes salty & fatty out of a damned can & HI locals love it. To each their own! IMHO!) AND Yes.... they have all kinds of the usual Cafe stuff like Bagels, Fancy Coffee Drinks, Breakfast, Wraps, and other healthy & fresh fare. They also have some neat Tee-shirts, mugs, Aloha Shirts, and other goodies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ !!!! DO NOT PASS UP A FRESH FED EXPRESSED BAG OF REAL MICRO-FARMED DESIGNER ORGANIC BIG ISLAND REAL KONA COFFEE- ON THE WAY OUT- SO ONO! SO FRESH! I literally watched them tear open a fresh bag that was delivered straight from a small KONA farm while I waited for it. I did not even know about really good Kona Coffee while I lived in Hawaii....besides the crap for tourists. You can also order direct from the small KONA farmers on-line, by yourself, once you discover this amazing Coffee (many small farmers will pick it fresh, roast it, & then Express it to you for $30-60/pd. It is even better than the Luwak (Civet Cat Shit) Indonesian Coffee that I once paid $140 for. Some Kona Coffees even rival the rare limited edition Panama (Citrusy) Geisha Coffees that I also will pay an arm & a leg for (from Katch Coffee on-line....freshly roasted & Fed Exed to you in small batches, once every few months) ~~~~~~~~~~~ AND Yes, it is hidden away in the rather mundane Dollar Tree mini-mall, next to Food-4-Less. IS there any other decent Hawaiian type food within a hundred miles ...well Yes, there is Zoe's in Santa Maria (1/2 hr drive away). Zoe's, while good, has Hawaiian food every day, has Lulu (if you call in advance to defrost), has Korean BBQ, & a greater selection, does not have have quite the same good ole authentic HOMEMADE TASTE like RED DIRT! As for the all the other food in the greater SLO area, as a new local, I will almost always pass up the so-called Downtown & other fancy pants overpriced tourist restaurants and just drive to get the real DIRT at DIRT cheap prices too boot! ~~~~~~~~~ BTW- I practically worship the dirt that RED DIRT is built on! ~~~ I TOTALLY LOVE & ADORE THE KAILUA PORK... as another former Hawaiian Yelper stated: IT BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES (IT IS SO DAMN "BROKE DA MOUTH") !!!!!!!!!! MAHALO FOR SUCH ONO FOOD BOSS LADY! :) YOU WOULD BE LOLO TO PASS THIS PLACE UP! P.S.- Please review your Pidgin, not your Pigeon!

I love to support local, so I am writing a review. This is a great option if you prefer organic coffee; they have some. They have plenty of comfy seating area inside as well as outside seating. The staff have always been friendly and the coffee is great. I only drink plain organic coffee with nothing else. BUT - they carry coconut milk with is a big bonus for me as I can't have dairy and I hate soy milk. So I have already decided this is my fave local coffee place in the area!

I used to love this place but now I just like it sometimes. What changed my mind is an issue with cleanliness. I try not to be too critical but one early morning my husband and I stopped there before our meeting. He got his usual and I got my bagel but I got more than a bagel. I know I am very critical when it comes to germs but handling our money and another person's sale then getting my bagel out of the freezer and in the oven cringed my gut. When it was done heating up those same dirty hands; picked it up, stuck it in a bag and gave it to me. I was so grossed out I haven't been back. It has caused me to be more attentive to people handling food, most people I see wear gloves and even hair nets. I hope this makes a difference because I love the owner and her girls, they have the sweetest atmosphere, sweet personalities with sweet tables (sticky). But nice addition to the community.

Grabbed an Americano to sit down and enjoy. Stopped by Sweet Pea's Bakery, up the street and grabbed a blueberry scone. Was hoping they had espresso, but not yet. Girl working the counter was obviously new and in training, but her smile was worth the wait. Keep it up. Owner was very apologetic about the wait, which wasn't long. Streamlined my order and discounted my drink. Small shops like this deserve to exist. Come visit, be patient and support your local spots. Starbucks has enough business. Thank you, Red Dirt. Keep it up.

Cool, casual, and coffee is GOOD! Food is on the sugary/heavy/greasy side (i.e. not healthy). Still love the place.

  • Lynn U.

I love the atmosphere and the staff is very friendly but after having my drink remade to what I ordered twice and then still receiving the wrong drink.. Hopefully just an off day.. It was busy..Idk I had to give up. I prefer another coffee shop nearby, only because whatever products they use to flavor the coffee don't give me a headache like this place. I really couldn't say what it was, other than I believe quite possibly be the syrups.. I also love the spot on rewards feature at this place. I will be returning to try different drinks that are not so sweet and I also plan to try some of they're other food items.. The adobo plate was tasty but not the best I've had.. Still good.

What a gem of an establishment!!! If you're into the dark, melancholy style beatnik coffee houses, there are more suitable choices for you than here. On the oddah hand, if you like friendly service, good coffee, being surrounded by island flavah and da kine aloha spirit, then you owe it to yourself to visit Red Dirt!! The store is conveniently located in a shopping center, if only I'd taken notice of them before I went to another eatery to have dinner. sigghhhh.... As soon as I stepped foot into the place, I already felt "at home" to the many islander style restaurants and businesses that are so prevalent here in the LA/OC areas. The atmosphere is light, friendly, and simply joyful. Great pieces of art and photography hang on the walls, lots of local information to immerse yourself into, plenty of seating, and the music is ambient, not over-bearing. Service is friendly, and so are the other patrons! Tells you the kind of place Red Dirt is... and I dig that! I ordered my usual; large Americano.... but noticed they have a full kitchen menu! I should have craved coffee BEFORE I actually ate dinner, but hey. I know next time where I'm going to be dining when staying in Pismo. I started talk story with a guy, I'm sure he was the owner or somebody. He explained to me that on the weekends they offer a full plate lunch menu, complete with choices like beef stew, kalua pig, all the good stuff like I'm spoiled with here. The offerings inside their pastry case looked amazing, too. AND, they sell 100% Kona coffee, even peaberry!!! I am here to spread da word, spread da aloha, of Red Dirt Coffee House. My next trip up to Central Coast I will be stopping in for sure, and spending some time there. Maybe I bring my ukulele so we can jam haha!! S)(OOTS!!!! Mahalo fo' reading!!

I love this little coffee shop. They have great coffee and I love the food! The Lola melt is my favorite!

Love it! Happened upon this coffee oasis by chance. Excellent macchiato, served hot, dry and a small splash of foam (Starbucks across the street, pop across the road for a lesson). We then decided to partake of some food too. Wise choice. The salads were fresh, crunchy, zesty and priced right. And finally, those mini lemon cakes are heavenly! To cap it all the service is exceptional; friendly, patient (as we kept adding to the order minute by minute) and just rounded out a wonderful relaxing time after a morning quad biking on the dunes.

Wanting to get some work done before meeting a friend, I decided to give this place a try. I went with an open mind... First off, this place is very easy to find. It's located in a large shopping center, near a supermarket. There's plenty of parking. Walking in, it definitely has that Hawaiian vibe and decor: Hawaiian art and decorations scattered about, some island artwork on the walls, couches and a few tables here and about. Very chill. Music is playing, not necessarily related to the islands, but stuff to please most people. Besides wanting to try their coffee, I wanted to try their spam musubi. They have a very extensive menu for drinks and food. I settled on getting a pot of the French pressed Kona coffee and a spam musubi, which I found easily in one of their refrigerator cases. I must admit, I was surprised how large their spam musubi was. The one thing that stood out for me, their customer service. They are very friendly and down to Earth. I asked for the creamer, and they proceeded to give me a tiny pitcher for my cream. That was nice of them. Also, it is very obvious that this is a very local place. People were coming in, saying "hi" to each other, and hanging out. It's also got that very beach community feel to it. Their spam musubi didn't taste bad. But, again, I was surprised how large of a portion it was. It consisted of an overwhelming amount of rice, a large slab of Spam, and of course, seaweed. I had a hard time eating the stuff! Towards the end, my Spam musubi was tasting really salty (since they put a huge slab of the stuff in there) I would have preferred a smaller portion. Spam musubi is not new to me, I grew up eating this snack. But this was too much! Also, I am sorry to say, but I did not enjoy their coffee. I was surprised, but my French press was watery and bitter in taste. I had a hard time finishing my cup. I don't smoke, but it tasted like cigarette ashes, if you can imagine. I was so sad. I really wanted to like it. I mean, I've had Kona coffee before, on the mainland and in Kona, but drinking it here was not a pleasant experience. If I come back, I think I'll just stick with their food.

I'm new to the area, and having just left the PNW, I'm on a serious hunt for a coffee shop to call my own. I gave Red Dirt a shot and I'm pretty glad I did. The place is cute--and serves Hawaiian (which my beau and I both love), two pretty sweet draws for this place. The staff was friendly and the place seemed tidy. I ordered a latte to go--I don't remember the exact name, but it had macadamia and banana syrup in it--and it was hellagood! I had to dock a point though--there was maybe one or two people ahead of me with what looked like pretty simple orders and it took a long time to get my order, so this might not be a place to stop if you're in a hurry.

I always look forward to coming here. Jackye and the other baristas are super friendly and awesome. The atmosphere is so great for studying, honestly a lot better than Starbucks. Plus it's open a little later so I would be able to stay for a while. They also serve plate lunches on weekends and they are SO amazing! I can go on about how awesome this coffee shop is!

  • Robbie S.

Small mom/pop shop with good coffee and even better atmosphere... I have been a regular here for sometime and have taken to this little shop over the big corporate coffee houses like Starbucks and CoffeeBean. If your looking for a coffee place that remembers your name and gives you great service this is the place. I could only hope for more of these coffee shops however it's hard to find.

Love this place!!! The employees are always happy and welcoming. They customize everything & work very hard to meet every type of diet request, including Paleo. The coffee is fresh and excellent. Their pumpkin lattes, which are currently in season, are to die for & made with whole ingredients without all the unnecessary fillers. Not to mention the incredible handmade pumpkin whipped cream!! I've never had anything their I didn't like :)

I have lived in AG for about 3 months now, and I LOVE THIS PLACE. The staff are friendly, helpful, clean, and fast. The coffee is delicious and original. My fav is the Haupia Latte. I'll admit I haven't tried as much of the food as coffee, but what I tried was amazing. Bagel-wich = delish. Saw recently that they have Kalua Pork; I will be trying that very soon :) Atmosphere is very chill. They have several couches, squishy arm chairs, lots of tables and chairs, and even a separate room that you can reserve. This place is definitely a local favorite.

Love this coffee shop. Great coffee, great food, great customer service...what more could you ask for? My boyfriend and I come here quite often (him more than me) and they always have our coffee order ready by the time we get to the cash register. Friendly girls that pride themselves on all the great things I mentioned above.

Friendly Staff, good coffee. Atmosphere was had a local feel to it. A reg cup of coffee was a little high, $2.25 but in the end your paying for, ....... well, .... your paying for it! I like the place and it's worth the stop. I'll be going back

awesome vibe, with delicious coffee! some of the dope things - BOOOMMMBB coffee - ask for a for here mug, coffee always seems to taste better - they have cool magazine you can check out - really comfortable sofa/chairs - big or small tables to study - pretty fast and reliable internet (trust me not all coffee shops have this) - they even have a room you can reserve! - they brew the beans from a local place in santa barbara negatives.. the door does stay open often, and if you sit near it, it can get cold other than that though if i lived nearby i would hella make this place my coffee shop to go!

Red Dirt Coffee House is amazing. The owners are warm and friendly and do a great job of training their staff. From their coffees and smoothies to breakfast sandwiches and Hawaiian plate lunches, there is something for everyone and it all tastes amazing. Having moved to the Central Coast from Hawai'i a couple years ago, I knew that I would need to find a place that genuinely offered the "Aloha Spirit," and I found that in Red Dirt Coffee House. I recently had a dinner party and due to some last minute problems asked the owners if they could cater the food for the event. Their team did AMAZING! The food was PERFECT, the presentation was beautiful, the pricing was competitive and they did this all with only two days notice. I always have and will continue to recommend this establishment to everyone!!

Excellent customer service. Food wasn't the best, but you can't get anything like it anywhere else within a 30mile radius (talking about the dishes from Hawaii).

The blended chai's are amazing! October they make a pumpkin one with real puree in it...so good!

I'm here for breakfast and to write while visiting my folks in AG. Very friendly owners, delicious veggie breakfast burrito and good coffee. Reggae playing, charming aloha decor, aquarium, books and magazines to read, comfy chairs and sofas. I found my place to caffeinate and write when I come to AG.

I really like the vibe of this place.... Comfy couches for lounging, Pandora playing on the stereo, the drinks are good, although I've yet to eat anything except for a cookie, which was ok. The homemade soups look good. I've find myself going out of my way to come here, even though I'm a tea drinker.

I love this place! My girlfriends and I started coming here after our morning beach walks, and now it is a full-blown tradition. It is family-owned and they are all SO nice! The coffee beats the hell out of Starbuck's and the food is good. (I recommend the Maui Sunrise breakfast sandwich - yum!) They have local artists work displayed on the walls, comfy couches for relaxing, and cute "Hawaiian" themed decor. Oh, and on Wednesday mornings there's a Farmers' Market right out front. Bonus!

I know it seems like my reviews consists of a lot of 5 stars..but i really don't write a review unless it's memorable If I lived in Pismo, I'd probably want to be a part of their family/community environment as well. The whole family is nice and the place is clean and cheery. I can see myself just hanging out there all day. I forgot the name of the coffee I ordered, but it had flavor of almonds, banana, and maybe macadamia (i forgot) and it was amazing! Started with a K and I got it hot and my friend got it cold. I liked it cold more, but I just enjoyed it while it was hot and put some ice in it afterwards It's definitely coffee you want to drink as a treat than something that wakes you up. I find it to be equivalent to enjoying Pearl drinks (common in the bay area and socal) I rarely tip baristas but I definitely did for them. I saw these really pretty plumeria clips and they went thru their entire inventory to find the color and size I wanted. I wish more places had this family type environment. Most coffee places you run into now are friendly, but not warm and fuzzy like the staff at Dirt Coffee

Love going here in the morning. It's definitely where the locals go. When I'm in from out of town, I make a point to go there versus Stbx across the street.

  • Rhee C.

We were new to town when we stumbled across this place and were relieved to be able to go in somewhere to have a cup of coffee. I enjoy their uniqueness with the island theme. We had breakfast sandwiches and were pleased with the service, our meals and our coffees. I wanted to give four stars but I just can't because I do wish they had more room, more tables with chairs, and please, do some cleaning. I had my baby with us and when he sat on my lap he played with the bamboo screen hanging behind my chair and when I saw his hands, I realized the screen was covered with dust. That puts a damper on my enthusiasm for this coffee house, you know.

The service was great - very friendly and prompt with the food and drinks. I wasn't too excited about the food - I had the da moke wrap which was a strange combination of ingredients. Iced latte was good - not much to go wrong with that - cappuccino had good foam.

Ok, this coffee house is pretty cool. It sits in a shopping center next to a locally owned store. The coffee shop itself is locally owned and operated which gives you the good feeling that you are spending money locally. The ambience of this place is of a laid back artsy lounge. The food is pretty good. I recommend the Maui Sunrise breakfast sandwich.for coffee, the state street blend is a little too dark for me but good coffee. For the medium blend drinkers (Like me), I suggest the Santa Barbara blend. I see good things for this place. It's off the beaten path, but there is plenty of parking, plenty of room and loungy seats to relax in, and good coffee and eats to enjoy, I give it a thumbs up! Cheers!

I try to eat as vegan and organic as possible. I love Red Dirt because they use organic coffee beans for their espresso and organic soy milk. Sometimes they offer an organic salad for $5 which is a great deal! It's hard to find an establishment that cares about using organic, high quality ingredients- but they do!!! If you have been or lived in Hawaii, this is a family that genuinely has its roots from there. You cannot replace authenticity. Kuddos to their family and the music is awesome when they host it!

I went here for the first time today and had the Haupia Latte. It was so great--the syrup added great flavor without being too sweet and it didn't overpower the flavor of the espresso. Now, I'm not a "I'm going to go submit a review!" kind of person, but I really was pleased with my experience and thought Red Dirt deserved a good word or two (especially since I often find myself skimming through Yelp reviews when looking for a new place to eat/drink). So, if you find yourself in the area, go check this little coffee shop out!

Really nice little local coffee joint. Comfortable chairs, wi-fi, good location, suitable caffeination. Absolute best espresso ever? Not quite (you'll have to head to Uptown or Joe Momma's for that), but certainly the best in the five cities area. Nice variety of baked goods, sandwiches, soup, etc. Hours are fantastic, especially for those of us who are students and/or working people. Lots of yummy, inventive drinks, solid caps & americanos. Staff is always delightful. Really glad to see this niche filled in an area that only has Starbucks, which really shouldn't even be called coffee. It's miles and miles better than Starbucks by far.

Just realized this place was open a few weeks ago as I went to Wednesday a.m. Farmer's Market. I have been looking for another great place since Zadoks was forced out by Hunter's Landing and this is it. A great LOCAL place. Great atmosphere--it lacks the hustle and bustle (in a great way) that Starbucks has--it's a place to relax and enjoy a good drink. Great music--can't really go wrong with Hawaiian tunes playing in the background (it's not that noisy stuff that so many places have playing in the background). Friendly and "local" staff--nice folks that know how to talk-story, know where to get "local" (real Hawaiian) food and make a good drink. A very good variety of drinks (I love the Haupia Latte!) AND an EXCELLENT selection of sugar-free flavors (especially good for those of us who are diabetic). Prices are good--remember that their norm is to use whole milk, so if you want the other stuff, let them know when you order. Soup is homemade by Jackie every day. Additional bonus: this place has GREAT hours! In our sleepy town, so many places are closed at 7:00 p.m. Red Dirt is open to 11 most nights (except Sunday). I hope they aren't discouraged and I hope that folks support them in the later hours (they also open at 5:00 a.m., which is great for those of us that begin work at 7 a.m.!). Let's support local business and support Red Dirt Coffee.

Awesome ambiance, great coffee and other sweet treats! I love the comfy lounge areas. Free wifi and rooms you can reserve for studying, meetings, etc. I love this little Hawaiian vibe coffee house! It's nice to have it located in Grover Beach and open late for those of us who prefer a place with more character then the local Starbucks and who do not feel like venturing out to SLO.

Just went to Red Dirt Coffee House this morning. It always feels good to support local business and this place deserves it. People are great, the coffee is delicious and you can tell that it was prepared with care. Now that I live a block away from it you can expect to find me there a lot more often.

Its cute. Tons of drink options to try. The food is yummy as well. If you want something non corporate this is a great place. Really friendly people, and great service. They were so sweet to the little kiddies ordering hot chocolate. If I went to school near by I would come here to read/do homework. I can see it becoming a great local place.

I had to check this coffee house out after I read all the postive reveiws. I am so glad I did. It's my new favorite. The State Street coffee is really good. Free wi-fi, two different meeting rooms, comfortable seating, good food and amazing desserts. They are even letting us use the meeting room for our theater group. The owners are really nice and friendly. And best of all Red Dirt is open until 11:00.

I walked out of the Grand Avenue Starbux the other day when I was waiting in a long line and took the time to read their price/menu board. I was shocked to see they charge $3.15 for a small coffee. Still having coffee houses on my mind, a couple days later, I noticed a sign basicaly across the street from Starbux, onGrand Avenue advertising a $2.00 Blended Mocha. I turned in, and took my brother and daughter there and we all had one of these delicious reasonably priced mochas. I was impressed immediately by the gentleman at the counter. He was really nice and friendly. The music and atmosphere was really comfortable. I noticed they have Edna Valley baked goods (MY FAVORITE!) at an amazingly reasonable price. The next day I returned to see if they again had a $2.00 special drink, and they did! This time, a Blended Vanilla Bean coffee drink. The drinks are a very generous nice size, great taste, and again, served in a great environment. I highly recommend this place, and am so glad to spend my money at a local place, with local people, and will not be returning to dump money into greedy Starbux' coffers. I mean, really, if they can't figure out how to serve a small cup of coffee for less than $3.15 then i want nothing to do with anything they have to offer!

Super friendly service. Haupia Latte is really tasty, not too overpowering. My husband got the Maui Sunrise breakfast croissant and loved it. I had the breakfast burrito - featured veggie was asparagus - I can't stop thinking about it! I'll be back.
